Your details seem to indicate that the oven door is unlocked even though the lock light is still on. This normally indicates that you have a bad switch on the oven door lock motor assembly. There is a possibility that you have a bad electronic oven control board but that failure is less likely.

Replacing the oven door lock motor assembly may fix this problem. There is some risk that replacing the door lock motor assembly will not fix the problem. It is probably worth the risk to replace this component. The door lock motor assembly costs around $55. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. The parts number for the door lock motor assembly for your range will probably be part number 316464300 (substituted from original part number 316415400). You can verify the correct part number by using the full model number (i.e. 790.96612400) to access the part list diagram for your exact range.

Here is a link for a video that shows how to replace that part: Range Door Latch Motor Replacement .

If you replace the door latch assembly and still have problems, you will probably need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure. The wiring and electronics on this range are fairly complicated. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.
