Question and Answers

Q:

How do I fix error code F30 on my Kenmore range, model 790.96609500?

A:

The F30 fault code indicates that the electronic oven control detected an open temperature sensor probe connection. This can be caused by a failed temperature sensor probe, a bad wiring connection or a defective electronic oven control board. A service technician is normally needed to diagnose and repair this type of problem.

If you have a volt/ohm meter and the technical ability to safely access internal range components, you may be able to diagnose and repair this failure yourself. This process involves unplugging the range and checking the resistance of the temperature sensor probe in the oven. If the temperature probe does not measure around 1100 ohms of resistance at room temperature, it will need to be replaced. If the resistance of the temperature sensor probe is okay, then the resistance would need to be measured through the temperature probe wiring connection at the control board. The resistance measured through the wiring at the control board should be about the same as the resistance measured directly at the temperature probe. An open wiring circuit measured from the control board would indicate a wire connection problem between the board and the temperature probe.

If the temperature probe is replaced and you still get the F30 fault code even though the temperature probe circuit is okay, then you would need to replace the electronic oven control board.

Q:

What does "F30" error code mean on my Kenmore range?

A:

The "F30" fault code indicates an open temperature sensor probe or an open temperature sensor probe circuit between the sensor and the oven control. The oven temperature sensor probe is located inside the oven cavity at the upper left rear corner or in the upper right rear corner. It usually will have one or two screws securing it to the rear oven cavity wall. It will have a quick disconnect harness plug. The sensor can be removed and tested with an ohm meter for resistance. At room temperature (75 degrees plus or minus 2.5 degrees) the sensor should measure 1091 ohms plus or minus 5.3 ohms. If the sensor ohms correctly, the oven sensor circuit will need to check at the oven control board. If the sensor has no resistance, replace the oven temperature sensor probe. Part #316217003. I added a link to Sears Parts Direct with the oven sensor looked up for you. Click on "Probe" to open link.
