Q:

Burner broken on 790.9642940C 790.9642940C

A:

An update on this problem - I removed the burner to examine it, and there is no visual damage on the element. I can see that the inner circle is controlled by a separate power control, and that is the part that is not heating up. I see no visual damage on the heating filament. Other related information - this burner has the simmer select feature, and some time ago that feature stopped working well, and that was while the inner coil was still heating up. I also tested with an ohmmeter that the inner coil still has connectivity through the coil, so I am doubting at this point it is the burner itself. Does that make sense? Is the problem with the control switch? How can I be sure?

Q:

oven 7909642940C Kenmore Electric range

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the oven not heating. I know how frustrating that is.

I suspect the issue is a shorted power relay for the oven on the electronic control. This is commonly referred to as a 'Communication Error', and the symptom is that the surface units work, but the oven doesn't.

We would recommend having a service technician assist with the diagnosis and repair. The boards are very sensitive parts and can be tricky to replace unless you have experience doing so.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
