A:

I know that it can be very difficult to have issue with your range. The F40 error code indicates a failure of the cooktop lockout board. The cooktop lockout board is not communicating with the main EOC electronic oven control. This could be a loose wiring harness or either the EOC board or cooktop lockout board is faulty. This type of diagnosis will require using a volt/ohm meter. If you decide to check the harness to the boards you will need to remove the back panel for access. If you have a meter I have provided the wiring diagram for you in the image below. How to install part 316400601 on a Kenmore range model 790.9642940b?

A:

Disconnect the power to the range and remove the 2 screws at the back of the bottom oven panel. Insert a small screwdriver into the holes the screws were in. Pull the bottom panel toward the front of the oven while lifting the panel up. It should lift out and remove.
