Q:

Kenmore Range Model 790.9641940B Element Light Always On 790.9641940b

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your range. Upon researching model790.9641940b; thank you for submitting your question, I can understand your concern in having a properly working range in your home. I will be glad to help you today. This type of problem is caused by a failed (stuck) contact on one of the surface burner infinite switches. To diagnose this failure, a technician would unplug the range and access the infinite switches in the console by removing the upper back panel on the range. The technician would pull the wire connected to the P terminal of the infinite switch on the LF burner and dress pull it out of the way so that it does not contact the metal cabinet of the range or any other wires or contacts. The technician would then briefly plug the range back in to see if the  “ELEMENT ON” light still stays on. If the light turns off with the P wire of the LF burner disconnected then the LF infinite burner switch needs to be replaced (with the range unplugged) to fix this problem. If the light stays on, then the range would be unplugged. The P wire would be replaced on the LF burner and the process would be repeated for the LR and RR burners. On the RF burner, the 4 and 4a wires would need to be pulled to diagnose this failure. Once the bad burner switch is identified, it will need to be replaced (with the range unplugged).

NOTE:

If you attempt to diagnose this failure yourself, be sure that you unplug the range when handling wires on the burner infinite switches and properly position the disconnected wires out of the way so that they do not short to other wires or the metal cabinet.

Q:

790.9641940b Range - Will not complete clean cycle 790.9641940b

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your range. Upon researching model790.9641940b; the “F10” error code indicates a runaway temperature. You can unplug the range power cord and remove the oven sensor when the oven is not hot. With the oven removed you can test the oven sensor for continuity using a multi meter, if the sensor test reads no continuity then it may need to be replaced. If the sensor tests okay, then the electronic control board may need to be replaced. I have posted a link of the electronic control board to view the link click here.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Model 7909641940B. I ordered coil part 15B (shown on the diagram for this model). I am assuming the inner coil is burned out. I will check the continuity of the inner and outer coils on the old unit with an ohm meter before installing the new unit.
