Q:

Element light stays on what could it be? 7909641340G Kenmore Electric range

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your element light will not turn off on your range.

The troubleshooting would involve accessing the burner switches in the console with the range unplugged and then pulling the "element on" indicator light wire off each switch (one at a time) until the defective switch is identified. The bad switch would then need to be replaced.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

Hello Tyler. I am sorry to hear about that problem that you have with your Kenmore Range Model 790.9641340G.

That link for a previous answer that Yadira B. posted in the above response provides the general procedure for replacing the glass cooktop in that type of range. I included that procedure in the image below. It is a moderately advanced type of repair. It will require the cooktop to be raised and the radiant surface elements to be released from the bottom of that existing cooktop (with the range unplugged to disconnect electrical power). Once the surface elements are released, you can then remove and replace the cooktop. Fasteners at the back of the cooktop connect it to the hinges. If you are confident that you can complete that repair yourself, then you can order the replacement cooktop from this page: Cooktop for Kenmore Range Model 790.9641340G.

As noted above, be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components and replacing that part.

If you need to have a service technician replace that cooktop, you can schedule service through this page: Sears Home Services Range Repair.

I hope that this information helps. If you need further assistance, reply with additional details.
