Q:

can't get new element 316555800 to work 7909622240B Kenmore Electric range

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about the new element you got for your Kenmore range model 7909622240B. I am so sorry the replacement part isn’t working. I will be happy to help you with this.

Your question indicates part of the dual element is not functioning, however, did you verify the issue is with the element and not the switch or the wiring?  Were you able to see a burnt out section on the original part or see a break in the coil? When the element doesn’t work properly there are three possible causes, the switch (most likely problem), the wiring or the element. Sometimes a visual inspection will identify the issue, but often you need to test the parts to narrow down the problem.

You can test the parts with a multi-meter. Test the switch and the element for continuity. If the switch is “open” it will need to be replaced. On the dual element it is possible for part of the element to pass the continuity test and the other part to fail. (There are several videos online that will show you how to do this.)

Although the manufacturer has substituted the element, the wiring harness has not changed. This means the wiring for the original element should work with the replacement one. I recommend you verify you the wire connections are secure. If connections are fine, you can remove the element and check it for continuity with an ohm meter. If the element itself is fine, then you will need to determine if the issue is with the wiring or the infinite switch that controls the element.

SAFETY WARNING: Disconnect the power supply before beginning you remove parts for testing to prevent the risk of electrical shock which can result in property damage, serious personal injury or even death. If you are not comfortable completing this repair, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

I can understand wanting to be sure before ordering and replacing an expensive part. I see you have already checked the sensor probe. I attached images below that I believe will provide some confidence that you are correct and the EOC will need to be replaced.

The last image is the schematic if you feel comfortable doing more testing. I think it will still point back to the EOC. You can order the needed part here; Sears Parts Direct .

If any further assistance is needed, feel free to reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
