Q:

What do I need to permanently fix the oven door handle on my Kenmore range that keeps falling off?

A:

To fix this problem permanently, you can order the door handle kit part 5304458312 from the Sears PartsDirect website. This kit has revised parts and is not just the same handle and screws. This kit will have a new door handle with two longer screws and an instruction sheet. This should fix your oven door handle problem permanently.

I have the exact same problem.... so what you are teling us is that Kemore/Sears made a deffective product and has now revised it, and we need to pay more money to have a door on our range that doesn't fall apart. You would think that you would notify all your customers of this dangerously defective range and provide a technician and parts installed free of any charge.

In searching through numerous blogs, it appears that we three are not the only ones who have had this problem. My door handle fell off yesterday. I can see the screw. It appears that it was connected by about 2 threads as it is so short. I called Sears repair and they want $129.00 for a service call to come out and fix something that is their design defect.

How frustrating to realize that there are so many Sears Kenmore customers with this exact same issue - I have been researching this extensively - this is a safety factor - dangerous. I am so discusted with the non-reaction from Sears. So - I have to spend $120. - $250.00 to fix a design flaw in this range? Sad.-

I have the same issue as others mentioned here and elsewhere on the web - stainless steel range, and the handle keeps falling off. I agree with others that the screws installed at the factory are just too short! I have retightened it so many times that the handle threads are now stripped. I called Sears today and they are sending me a new handle with the longer screws without charge. I made one call with five transfers; it took about 1/2 hour all together. Your best bet seems to be to call Parts and ask for Escalation. At escalation they were able to resolve my issue in less than 5 min.Tell them you have the stainless range with the short handle screws. They have access to info. which specifically states "includes longer screws for stainless model."

Eric, you are lucky. I got absolutely no where with Sears. I am sitting here with a Kenmore Washer, Dryer, Dishwasher, Refrigerator, Range, Microwave, Upright Freezer plus numerous garden tools. All the appliances were bought for a newly built house. However, after my experience with this range handle, I will never walk into another Sears or K-Mart as long as I live. I wound up buying a screw at Home Depot that was long enough to hold. The same screw from Sears Parts was about triple the price.

When Sears announced they were closing numerous stores, I understood why. Their customer service sucks. No one wants to shop there. I know I won't ever shop at a Sears again.

I have been going through this circle of non-answers - I drove to the parts store, not anywhere near my place - to get the part # noted by Kyle W - it came with 1/2 inch screws! What?! It is the exact same part number - got the handle and little tiny screws - Eric-do you have any phone numbers \ part numbers we can use? Thanks

The part # they are sending me is 5304458312. I'll let you know if it works when I get it in about a week. If memory serves me right, she told me the "long" screw length is 2.14"

Thanks Eric - that's the part # indicated on my invoice....I did notice that on the original handle, the holes the screws go into are slightly off center form where the holes are in the new handle - perhaps that was part of the problem of the screws coming loose. At any rate - can't use the screws they sent. I called the parts store that was informed that the screws don't come with the handle! What a customer service mess.
