Q:

when I replace the oven light, it keeps on burning out. what' the cause? 79096122409 Kenmore Electric range

Q:

Connect replacement burner 790.96122409

A:

That replacement burner should have the connection spades labeled with the same numbers and letters as the original burner even though the spades are in a different location. Connect the wires to the spades with the same labels as the original burner. You may have to splice in some wire to lengthen one or more of the wires if they're not long enough to fit the new burner. Use ceramic wire nuts with the proper temperature rating and the proper gauge and rating of wire if you have to spice in extensions. If you're not sure how to connect the replacement burner, then I recommend that you have a service technician install the replacement burner.

First, thank you for your reply. The burner is now properly connected and working as intended. I am embarrassed to admit that the wiring diagram was still on the back of the stove right where it should have been but I only discovered it late in the process. Between color coded wires and labeled connections it was no problem to properly connect the burner. No matter how the burner was connected the circuit breaker popped immediately. We brought in an electrician who, after a little checking, discovered that the 40 amp circuit breaker on the main electrical panel had decided to become defective just as I was replacing the burner. After inspecting the wiring the electrician suggested a 50 amp breaker as replacement. Once that was installed, everything worked as it should. Wife is now happy and off my . . well, you know. Gene

Q:

Replacement range switch connectors are configured different than original. help? 79096122409

A:

Although the location of the wire terminal connections are different, the switch wires should be connected to the terminals that are labeled the same as the original switch. I looked at the wiring diagram and see that the orange wire should connect to H2, red to L2, purple to P and black to L1. If you are not certain that you can properly wire the new switch, I recommend that you have a service technician wire the new switch. Unplug the range before accessing internal components and wiring the new burner switch.
