The burner switch for that element will need to be replaced. As noted in those previous answers that Dezeray S. posted in the above response, the contact on a burner switch is apparently stuck. That indicator light contact is likely stuck on the switch that will not regulate the temperature properly. I recommend that you replace that burner switch. You can order that part from this page: Kenmore Range 790.96119408 Backguard Parts . Here is a link for a brief repair video that shows how to replace that burner switch: Range Infinite Burner Switch Replacement . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing and replacing internal components.

In the unlikely event that you replace that burner switch and still have a problem with that indicator light staying on, you can use the wiring diagram shown below to help you check the other switches. You can unplug the range and pull the purple wire off of that P contact on a burner switch and tape the end of that wire with electrical tape to prevent it from shorting to the metal cabinet. Briefly power up the range to see if the light stays on. If the light stays on, unplug the range and repeat that process until you find the faulty switch. Be sure that you unplug the range when handling wires on those infinite burner switches. NOTE: The right front burner switch uses the spade #4 instead of the P terminal for that purple indicator light wire. If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

I provided a more detailed wiring diagram in the first image below. The second image shows a drawing of the control on your range. If the hot surface indicator light (Key 9) is staying on, then that light is controlled by a sensor on that element. The element will probably need to be replaced in that situation. I provided a video below this response that shows how to lift the cook top and access the elements. Be sure that you UNPLUG the range before accessing internal components. This additional information may help you with that failure. If you need more help, let us know.

According to your description, the burner switches are probably bad. I recommend that you unplug the range and access those switches as shown in this brief repair video: Burner Infinite Switch Replacement . You will probably find some burn marks on those switches or some burnt insulation on the wires connected to those switches. Replacing those switches (part 316436000) should fix this problem in that situation. You can order those replacement switches from the Sears PartsDirect.com website. Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing and replacing those burner infinite switches.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.
