Q:

kenmore electric range 79096119403 Kenmore Electric range

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems with the range.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Range model number 79096119403.

When the bake element goes bad then its very probable that the broil element goes bad at near the same time.

TESTING ELECTRIC RANGE ELEMENTS:

1.  Unplug th oven from the wall outlet.

2.  Remove the racks from inside when you have the oven door opened.

3.  The elements have a screw on each side and need to remove the screws and pull the wires from the
    elements out.

4.  Turn the dial on a multimeter to Rx1k.  Place one lead from the meter on the terminal at the end
of the element, then place the other lead on the end of the other termial.  The needle on the
multimeter should register between 19 and 115 ohms.  Replace the element if no reading registers
    on the meter.

5.  If the elements are good then take the meter and test both wires that you hook to the bake/broil
    elements.

Kenmore that the display goes blank, the clock then blinks and I reset the clock then works for a while. What ist he problem? 790.96119403

In the trouble you are having will have to be with the control board.  First thing I would do since it happens periodically is take a look behind the control board when you have the panel open.  Check to see if it is dirty, a loose or bare wire that needs to be covered, cleaned, or re connected to make it firm.

If everything is good then you will need to order a new control clock/timer and the overlay that will go in front of it.

thanks. I'm a little confused though. Will I need to remove the elements if I'm getting the top replacement (part 316456232)? These instructions talk about replacing the elements. Or, does the new top include everything seen when the cooktop is in the raised position?

William; The radiant burners are attached to the brackets to keep the secured to the bottom of the glass top. You do not have to disconnect the wires from the burners but you will need to remove the screws securing the brackets to the bottom edge of the top. The top will not include the burners and you do not replace the burners.

William: You should not need the information in the small image, The last image I provided shows how to drop the radiant burner brackets and how to remove the top. It's not a major procedure. You should have all the instructions needed to replace the top.
