Q:

Correct Kenmore oven 790.9611440A thermostat part? 790.9611440A

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the range not reaching an accurate temperature. I know how frustrating that is to have happen.

From what you have described it sounds like an issue with the temperature sensor probe. The oven’s temperature is maintained by the temperature sensor and the electronic control board. The sensor senses the oven’s temp and tells the control when to kick on for additional heat, or when to kick off. The probe should be tested with a meter for resistance to verify if it’s defective. At room temperature, the resistance should be approximately 1100 ohms. If it is not within that range, the sensor will need replacement. If it is, the electronic control board will likely need to be replaced. The part number for the sensor is 316490000.

I will hope that this sensor probe is the right one. As I said, the online parts representative insisted that the mechanical-dial thermostat (with the sensor included) was the proper part. In case this does not work, I will hope that someone, finally, will be able to confirm the right thermostat (electronic control board?) for my oven.

Pull up the schematic on Sears Parts and verify it for yourself. It's the OEM part for the model. It's listed on the 'Body' schematic as key number 37. Pretty easy to identify.
