I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your range. Normally, the only time that the OVEN ON light will blink is in the CLEAN mode when this cycle is finished. The CLEAN light is normally blinking along with the OVEN ON light in this situation. You could have a problem with the electronic control board or the oven door lock mechanism that is causing this problem. There is also a possibility that a failed thermistor (temperature sensor) or a wiring problem could cause this failure.

There are times when an glitch or power surge through the electrical power lines will confuse the electronic control board in the range. You can sometimes reset the control board by unplugging the range for 5 minutes. After plugging the range back in, you may be able to reset the clock and the control may resume normal operation. This is a long shot but you can try it.

If you are not able to reset the control by using the method mentioned above, then you have an issue with your controls. Most oven work on a separate system from the oven, so I would also suggest you check the power to the range. If the outlet surged, it could cause damage to the board. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

First, Tony i don't want to be unpolite here, but you are hijacking my thread. Please open your own to avoid different answers for possible different problems. @anneJ, I disconnected the range for two hours ( just to be sure ;) ), the upper heating element did work again this morning, the lower one is still out. I assume i could replace the part, but then The question remains why he gave up all together yesterday.

Dan on your issue, replacing the element may solve the problem. However, I would suggest that you test the bake and broil element connections on the control board. In order to diagnose the failure will require checking voltage on L2 and on L1 at the bake and broil element wire leads. You will need to disconnect both L1 and L2 wires from the bake and broil element and check the voltage on each L1 and L2 to neutral or ground. The L1 should measure 110-120 volts and the L2 should measure 110-120 volts. When measuring across both (L2&L1) it should measure 220-240 volts. Since both elements are common to L2, there is good change there may be a burnt L2 wire connection at the terminal block at the back of the range where the power supply is connected. If you are not getting continuity on the element, then replace it. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

AnneJ, Thanks for your advice. Something strange is happening to me. Yesterday the oven didn't work at all (red light flashing), when only one of the heating elements works it's a steady red light. now, on your advice I wanted to check the voltage (so i ran to the store and got me a meter) and as soon I was ready to check, the light went out and the oven seems to be working again. So, I'll won't touch the backside as long as it works and get back there when the light starts flashing again :) I'll keep you posted with meter readings... thx Dan

Thank you for your question. I know it can be frustrating when the oven stops working. I see you have tried resetting the control already. Make sure the time of day is set. This oven will not work unless the time is set. I'm attaching this information from the owner's manual. If it still won't function, the control # 316557118 will need to be replaced. It's available at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/316557118/0022/628?pathTaken=directMatch&filterPart=&pop=flush&prst=0&shdPart=316557118&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
