Question and Answers

Q:

Why did "F10" begin flashing while I was broiling on High and what does it mean?

A:

The "F10" fault code means "Runaway Temperature". The oven temperature reached to hot of a temperature while you were broiling. This may have happened if the food item flared up from a flash grease fire or possibly from not having the oven door in the "broil stop" position to allow heat to escape.

Since you were able to clear the fault code and get the broiler to work again there is not likely any failure with the range. If it continues to flash "F10" when baking I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

NOTE: When broiling open the door to the broil stop position. See image below.

Q:

Can I replace the baking element in my Kenmore electric range?

A:

Replacing the bake element in your oven should be fairly simple. Turn the power off to the range or unplug the power cord. Remove the oven racks. Unscrew the two screws securing the bake element to the back of the oven. Slide the element out just far enough to disconnect the wiring. Remove & reinstall the new bake element in the reverse order.

The pop you heard is normal & was the element shorting out.

Q:

Why won't my oven door shut completely?

A:

The hinges are likely the cause of the door not shutting fully. Both hinges should be replaced with a hinge kit part #5304445529. The hinge kit contains 2 hinges and 2 hinge receptacles. Both hinges must be replaced at the same time. See image below for instructions.
