Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Smooth top elements:

  1. Disconnect power from the range.
  2. Open the oven door and remove the two Phillips screws holding the main top to the front frame and raise the main top.
  3. Tag and disconnect wires from the element to be removed.
  4. Remove the two screws, one on each end, of the element support bar.
  5. The element is held to the support bar by 2 spring load clips. With a pair of needle nose pliers squeeze the tab on the spring mounting clip and push the element away from the bar.
  6. The clips are held to the element by screws. When replacing the element be sure to note the hole number that the clip is attach to the old element.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Need directions to operate self-cleaning cycle. Cannot find manual.

A:

A response in 2 days by e-mail will be fine. I can down-load the directions to operate the self-cleaning cycle that way. Every appliance in my home are sears products and still have all their manuals except the Kenmore electric range. I can't believe it is gone!!!! Thanks for your help. dmtharp

Thank you for your question. I was able to find a model number I think might be yours. It is model 79095882300. If it is not exact, it should be close enough. For the complete instructions on using the self clean, click on the following link to the manual. On page 18 starts the instructions on using the self clean. Please make sure to remove the racks and wipe out any major spins before starting the self clean.
