Question and Answers

Q:

How to get the door lock mechanism to unlock when the door is open?

A:

Open the door and locate the door switch plunger located in the upper left corner of the frame. You will need to push and hold the plunger in and keep it pressed while programming a self clean cycle. Wait about 1 minute after starting the clean cycle and then press the "Clear" button while still holding the door switch plunger in and wait for the door lock mechanism to fully reach the unlocked position before releasing the door switch plunger. See image below for programming a clean cycle.

Q:

My Kenmore range, model number 790.95651001, self-cleaning lock mechanism keeps locking and unlocking. What can be the problem?

A:

In reference to your Kenmore range, model number 790.95651001:

If the door lock is not engaging, you may need to replace the lock motor. This part is available at Sears Parts direct . Before replacing any parts please follow the check list below.

Possible Causes :

  • Oven door will not close due to door latch being in the lock position and hitting the door.If this is the problem you will need to move the door latch back into the UNLOCk position.
    • Open the door and find the door switch. The door switch is found on either the upper right or upper left corner of the oven edge.
    • Push and hold in the light switch button. Press the Stop / Cancel button to cancel any existing cycle the range might be in.
    • Still holding in the light switch, turn the self-clean cycle on as if you were going to run the self clean cycle (depending on model, press the Start button)
    • Continue to hold the light switch and then press the Stop / Cancel button to turn off the self clean cycle
    • Keep holding light switch until latch hook reverses back into opening or the UNLOCk position
  • The oven door hinge may have been pulled from the roller pin (see figure 4 in Resolution ) as the range was being moved during installation.
