Question and Answers

Q:

Element light on all the time 79095373803 Kenmore Electric range

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your lawn mower. Upon researching model 917387500; this type of problem is likely caused by a contact being stuck in one of the surface infinite switches. It is apparent that one of the switches has a stuck contact that is energizing the circuit to keep the light on. This type of problem should not pose a safety threat since none of the elements are heating when the burner switches are all off. One of the burner infinite switches will need to be replaced to fix this problem. To find the faulty switch, the range will need to be unplugged and the upper back panel will need to be removed. The wire connected to the P terminal of the infinite burner switches will need to be pulled one at a time (NOTE: the right front dual burner should not need to be checked since the wire is connected to terminal 4 that would heat the inner element and energize the light -- skip this burner switch during the test). Briefly reconnect the range to electrical power after pulling the wire on the P terminal of each switch to see when the light turns off. Do not make contact with the bare wires exposed from the rear of the range when it is briefly plugged in to check the light. Dress the wire that is pulled out of the way so that it does not short against the metal cabinet or other wires. You can cover it with a small piece of electrical tape if necessary. Once you determine the defective switch, you can order the part from the Sears Parts Direct.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.
