Thank you for your question. I understand your concern about the element staying on. The information you have received is very good. This type of problem occurs, when the contact inside the switch gets stuck. In this case, the switch will need to be replaced. If it's for one of the large burners, use switch # 5303935086 and for the small burners use # 316436000. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Your symptoms indicate that you have a stuck contact on one of the burner switches in the console. You can unplug the range and follow the troubleshooting described in this link for a previous answer: KENMORE RANGE 790.9641 BURNER SWITCH REPLACEMENT . Through a process of elimination, you should be able to determine which burner switch is bad. The "element on" light is probably connected to the burner switches through a violet (purple) wire on your Kenmore 790 range. It should be connected to the P (Pilot) terminal or the #4 terminal on the burner switches. Be sure that you unplug the range when accessing and handling wires on the burner switches.

If you determine which switch is bad, you can order the replacement part from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Here is a video that shows how to replace the burner switch in a typical Kenmore 790 range: Burner Switch Replacement . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing and replacing internal components.

If you need more help diagnosing and repairing this failure, reply with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore 790 range.

If you get to a point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

Hello Joshua. The general information in the answer above should help you with that failure on your range model 790.95300100 if the "element on" light is staying lit. That wire for the "element on" light is connected to the "P" terminal on each of the burner switches on your range. You can UNPLUG the range and pull that wire off of the P terminal of one of the burner switches and tape it with electrical tape to prevent it from shorting out to the metal cabinet. Plug the range back in and see if the "element on" light turns off. If it does, then that burner switch will need to be replaced. If not, then you will need to use a process of elimination to determine which burner switch is bad. If you need more help or have a different type of failure, reply with additional details and we will assist you further. Be sure that you UNPLUG the range before accessing internal components and handling those wires. UNPLUG the range before replacing that failed burner switch.

Hello Joshua. I did not see your original question that is probably on a different thread. The problem that you are having with that element is almost certainly caused by a failed infinite burner switch. Replacing that burner switch should fix your problem. Be sure that you UNPLUG the range before accessing and replacing that switch. I posted a video in the above response that should help you complete that repair. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Q:

My Kenmore oven displayed a F1 error message. The model number is 790.95300100 but I'm having trouble locating the EOC replacement part that is indicated.

A:

A non working Oven is not something any of us want to see. If you are technically handy, this is a good site to get instruction and fix some things yourself. If you do not feel confident doing your own repairs, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the scheduler. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can check the bottom links for some possibilities. Hope this is of help.
