Thank you for taking time and submitting your question, I can understand your concern. I will be glad to help you. Generally speaking when your range over heats it should have displayed a fault code (F10) indicating a runaway temperature. Since you did not indicate any fault codes then I must assume the failure is either a shorted bake or broil element or possibly a faulty oven temperature sensor probe. You can test the oven temperature sensor and the bake and broil elements by disconnecting the components and measuring the resistance using an ohm meter. Below is a image of the wiring on your model. SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you do not feel comfortable doing the voltage check I do recommend have a qualified technician go to your home. You can go to Sears Home Services.com and set a appointment. If you need additional information, please reply below with details. Thank you for choosing Manage My Life.com.

Q:

One of the burner for my Kenmore stove just stopped working. The model number is 790.95268990. Does anyone have any ideas?

A:

It always nice to know that all the burners are working on the Kenmore range, even though you are not using them all at once. I attached a link below on another range with similar issues. Hope this helps while an expert responds.

The easiest thing to try is to replace the burner. If you have a working burner that is the same size, swap it out for the one that doesn't work. If the "broken" burner now works, the coil is bad. Buy a new one. If that doesn't work, the problem is likely to be the switch (knob). Try the burner swap first. If you have no others the same size, buy a new one. Ask if you can return it if it doesn't "fit" (or solve your problem).

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The radiant surface element could be faulty or it could have a faulty surface element control. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before accessing the surface element control switches.

In order to diagnose which one is fault will require a volt/Ohm meter. When the burner control switch is turned to HIGH, there should be 220 volts present when measuring across H1 and H2 terminals. If 220 volts is measured; the radiant burner is faulty. If it does not measure 220 volts; the burner switch is faulty. NOTE: I do not recommend measuring the voltage unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
