Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about the thermostat on your Kenmore Range. I am so sorry to hear the range isn't cooking evenly. I know how frustrating that is when you are trying to prepare a meal. I will be happy to help you with a solution to this issue.

Your range is set up to display fault codes if an internal malfunction is detected. If you noticed an F followed by one or two numbers in the Electronic Oven Control display, please respond to this thread with that code.  The code will tell us the likely cause of the failure. Even without a fault code, you can stil test the oven thermostat. On your model the manufacturer is calling the part an oven temperature probe. I have included the link to view the parts diagrams online to assist you with locating the parts. The probe will be on the Body diagram and is key number 37.

NOTE: Before you start you this test, you need to disconnect the power source to the range. You can do that by unplugging the oven from the wall or turning of the power at the breaker.

Next open the door to the oven. Locate the oven temperature probe (normally on the back wall inside the oven). To test the thermostat you will need to remove it from the oven. In order to do that, you will need to access it from the back of the oven by removing the rear wall shield (key 71). Be careful when removing parts from the range. Internal parts may have sharp edges that can cause serious injury. Before you unplug the thermostat, make sure you make note of how it was attached to make it easier to reinstall the part later.

You can test the thermostat with an ohmmeter. Following the instructions that came with the ohmmeter, set it to the lowest setting for ohms of resistence. Then calibrate the ohmmeter to read zero. Next touch one of the of the ohmmeter probes to one of the terminals on the thermostat. (The terminals are in the plastic connecter at the end of the wiring.) Touch the other probe to the other terminal. You should get a reading between 1000 to 1100 ohms of resistence when testing the thermostat at room temperature. A significant difference in the reading means the temperature probe needs to be replaced. I have included the link to order the part.
