Q:

Surface Burner won't heat 79094459700 Kenmore Electric range

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your range. Upon researching model 79094459700; it could be the element has shorted out. The switch could have shorted but I don’t see that happen often. Look at the element for any burnt marks or broken wires.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the surface elements are working then we can rule out the voltage supply. If the bake and broil elements are Okay, the most likely failure is the electronic oven control/clock assembly. There is a double one break (DBL) relay on the control board and if the control board fails and the relay does not close, neither bake or broil element will heat.

The electronic oven control #316462804 and the clock overlay will need to be ordered. The overlay on the old control will not stick on the new control once it has been removed. This is why you will need to order the clock overlay and install it over the clock/oven control before installing the new control.

The electronic oven control can be accessed and replace by removing the panel from behind the control panel. The oven control is fastened with a screw at each corner of the control. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

Transfer one wire at time from the old control to the new control and you should have no problems wiring up the new control board.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The broil element and bake element must heat in order for the oven to reach operating temperatures. The broil element alternates with the bake element. From a cold start, set the oven to broil and confirm if the broil element is heating or not. The set the oven for bake and see if the bake element is getting hot or not. One of the two is likely not heating. This failure could be caused by a faulty bake or broil element, a faulty electronic oven control or possible a burn wire connection.

I suggest beginning by seeing which oven element is not heating and then disconnect the power cord from the power source and then remove the heating element and test it for resistance with an Ohm meter. You can also slide the range out and remove the rear panel to access and disconnect the bake and broil element for testing. If both oven elements tests Okay with continuity/resistance, I suspect a faulty electronic oven control if you do not have any burnt wire connections in the bake or broil electrical circuits.

At this time I can not say what part is faulty without testing the bake and broil elements.
