Question and Answers

Q:

When the oven is turned on the read-out soon shows "F" and the oven turns off

A:

There should be more then just an F in the display. This unit can display several different types of F codes and there should be a number with it (see picture), indicating the type of problem. If it is only showing an F and no numbers with it, the control # 316557108 will need to be replaced. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question, with additional details.

What is wrong when the error message is "F10?" Obviously it is "runaway temperature;" I noticed that from the evidence burning in the oven. The question is, what can be done?

Thank you for your question on the different switch part number.

This switch should be a direct replacement for the original switch.

The amount of terminals should be the same but the locations may different from the old.

On most ranges the switch has an L1 and a L2 both of these are the line terminals for the two 120 volt lines.

The H1 and H2 are the wires coming from the heating element.

The P is for the pilot indicator light.

If the new switch has gone from letter and number to just number on the new one I will have to research that information from the manufacture of the range.

Please let me know what the new switch has as terminal indicators because I cannot get a good view of the terminals of the switch even with magnification. I just cant see them clearly enough to tell you the locations.

Is there anyway you can tell me the identification of the terminals.

Look at the image below.

Before replacing that bake element, I recommend that you check the resistance of that component as shown in that link for a previous answer that Jackie S. posted in the above response. If that element is bad, you can order a replacement from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for that element is 316075104. Here is a direct link for that part: Bake Element . You can unplug the range and replace that element as shown in this video: Bake Element Replacement . Your range will be slightly different but the basic procedure should be the same. You may have a hidden bake element. Remove the bottom oven panel over the element if necessary.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

This information should help you repair this failure in your range. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
