Question and Answers

Q:

heating oven question

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the broil element (upper element) is not heating at all during the broil cycle and/or when in bake, the electronic oven control/clock assembly is likely faulty. Even during the baking process, the broil element alternates with the hidden bake element. If you do not feel any heat what so ever from the broil element and on the oven floor, the electronic oven control has most likely failed. I added a couple of images below to reference.

The easiest way to know if the control board is faulty would be to check the voltage supply at the back of the electronic oven control.  I added an image below showing where the voltages should be measured to the bake and broil elements as well as the voltage supply into the control. NOTE: I do not recommend making any voltage measurements unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I highly recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

If you get the proper voltages as shown in the image below, then it likely has a faulty bake and broil element but it would be very uncommon for both oven elements to fail at the same time.

Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

Cindy: If it's heating any at all, it should heat past 250 degrees in 30 minutes. Since the bake element is hidden under the oven floor, it will take the oven longer to pre-heat than and oven with an exposed bake element. On page 25 in the Use and Care Guide, it has the instructions for adjusting oven temperatures. If you do not have the Use and Care Guide, copy and paste the URL below in your browser to upload the Guide. http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/1006837L.pdf I hope this is helpful.
