Q:

How do I open the back guard of a Kenmore electric range model 790.91105892?

A:

According to the parts list diagram, you should be able to remove the upper rear panel of the range by removing screws in the panel from the back of the range. Be sure that you unplug the range to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components. NOTE: The unfinished back panels often have edges that are sharp. I recommend that you wear protective gloves when removing this panel.

Q:

How do I replace a burner control on a Kenmore electric range model 790.91105892?

A:

I don't have a service manual or access information for this particular range. Here is some information that should help:

  • Unplug the range to disconnect electrical power before accessing the switch in the console.
  • According to the parts diagram, it appears that you should be able to remove the upper back panel to access the burner control switch. Remove the screws that secure the back panel and pull it off of the range. NOTE: Metal edges on the range parts can be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended.
  • With the upper rear panel removed, you should be able to access the wires on the back of the burner control switch that you are replacing. Make a note of the wire positions on the switch. Take a digital picture of the wiring connections if necessary to document their location. Remove the wires from the existing switch (with the range unplugged).
  • Pull the knob off of the front of the switch to expose the screw that secures the switch to the console. Remove the screw and replace the switch.
  • Reconnect the wires properly on the new burner control switch.
  • Reassemble the range and test the burner.

These tips may help you replace the burner switch in your range. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
