Question and Answers

What is the most common cause of a heating element burning out in a range?

A short in the element would normally cause the breaker to trip and the element to quit working. You could also have a wiring failure or an EOC (Electronic Oven Control board) failure.

A short in the oven element could be caused by oven cleaner residue or grease. If the oven is not used for a long time, this residue can contribute to the element failure. A deterioration of the element will occur over time when it is exposed to these deposits.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your oven failure. The technician would be able to predict the cause of your failure after physically examining the range.
