A:

Good morning..... I can fully understand your concern for your daughter. Have your tried turning the breaker off to the unit for at least 5 minutes? This action will reboot your unit back to it's factory settings. I will forward your question to an expert who will investigate the matter further and get back to you. You will hear from them within two business days if not sooner. Until you hear from us, have a nice day.

That oven does not have a reset button for the bake (or broil) circuit. I traced the bake circuit in yellow and orange on the wiring diagram in the image below. Since the broiler works and the element is okay, I suspect that you have a bad electronic oven control board (part 316557232). That component costs about $100. You will normally need to replace the overlay (part 316352011).

I recommend that you unplug the range and check the wiring connections on the control board using the wiring diagram below as a guide. Check the yellow wire that should be connected to the Bake spade on the control board. If that wire is intact, then you can check the resistance through that bake circuit using a volt/ohm meter. You indicated that you had someone check the heating element and it is okay. You should measure the same resistance through that bake circuit from the control board as you measured through the heating element when it was being checked (probably around 17 ohms +/1 10 ohms). If that circuit is okay, then I recommend that you replace that electronic control board if you want to fix this problem yourself. You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Range Model 790.90312012 Parts . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

The above information should help you resolve the repair issue with the range. I understand your dissatisfaction with the range due to this failure after a little more than one year. Although we are not in the best position to address that satisfaction issue, we want to help you get in touch with the right team at Sears that can help you. You can call the Sears National Customer Relations Office at 1-800-549-4505 regarding the range. I am certain that they will be able to help you.

If you need more help, let us know.

Q:

free standing range 90312

A:

I know how important it is to have the owners manual when wanting to have some great troubleshooting tips. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I suggest you add to the thread of this question and include the full model number of your range so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. I did manage to find a link that will provide you with some information about where you can locate the model number of your appliance. I am also adding a second link in where you can enter your full model number and the owners manual will pop up. I hope my links are useful.

Here is a direct link to the owner's manual for that range on our Manage My Life website: Owner's Manual . It may take a minute or two for this manual to download.

The Kenmore models will often have a 790. . . prefix in front of the stock number. The full model number of your range is 790.90312010 or 790.90312012.

Here is a link for the manual that may be easier to download and save: Owner's Manual
