I had the gas company technician out here to examine the stove. We have one burner that is not burning cleanly. Without the instructions, the technician was basically operating in the dark about my particular stove although he was generally qualified and knowledgeable. So, I have some data, like the current orifice opening for the troublesome burner, and I just need to check the conversion that was done 3 years ago at installation to make sure that everything is as it should be. If not, then I'll need to either find the kit to see if any parts were not installed (already looked all over, but it should be here somewhere) or buy another. The technician said that so far as he could tell, the conversion was done, the main tank's regulator was working properly and set to the appropriate level, but the symptoms that I report and he observed would be consistent with an orifice that was too large for the burner on propane. It's the back left one, the second largest. The other two medium, the simmer, and the extra large burner all burn cleanly. What he didn't know and I couldn't tell him is what the orifice opening or the range of openings should be.

I provided the LP conversion kit instructions for this range in the images below (4 pages). The first page shows the markings that should be indicated on the LP orifices. That back left burner should have the red LP orifices that is marked .95 mm. This information should help you and the gas technician check that conversion. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

Lyle, thank you! You've been very helpful. Based on these instructions and the info the tech gathered a couple of days ago, it is clear that the conversion was not done completely. I'm amazed.

Q:

Why is my Kenmore dual fuel range not heating properly?

A:

On something like this you will need to take an amp draw reading of the bake element while confirming 220 volts going to it. You should read between 18-22 amps. It sounds like only the broil element is coming on causing the oven temp sensor to cycle the heat off. I recommend checking the voltage & amp draw to the bake element. If you find 220 volts & you can touch the element then we know the element is faulty. If you do not find 220 volts I suspect a wiring harness problem.

Q:

What size breaker do I need to install a Kenmore Elite Duel Fuel range model 790?

A:

This type of range will need a 240 volt outlet protected by a 40 amp or 50 amp breaker depending on the KW rating on the name plate an local electrical codes. The basic requirements for a free standing duel fuel range beginning with model number 790. . . are shown in the image below. Here is a link for the entire installation guide for this type of range: Installation Instructions This guide is for Kenmore model 790.79469600. Your specific model may have slightly different requirements. You can use the owner's manual search tool on our Manage My Home website to see if the installation guide for your specific model is available.

If the range is a slide-in or drop-in model, the 240 volt power supply is typically hard wired to the range through a junction box.

A local electrician with knowledge of your local electrical codes should be able to install a proper 240 volt (or 208 volt) outlet needed for this type of range. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your range.
