Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details it sounds like the voltage supply is dropping out or it's loosing the Neutral line whenever the surface igniters are powered up. It could also have a faulty power supply board.

The AC voltage supply will need to be measured where it connects the electronic control. You will need to measured it before the surface igniters are powered up and then watch the voltage meter when the surface igniters are power up. It is either loosing the voltage supply or the neutral line. You will also need to measure the DC voltage at the power supply board as shown in the image below.

NOTE: I do not recommend measuring voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

You might want to plug the range cord into a different wall outlet and see how it operates too.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks Joey S. I have a follow up question. And some information. I am unable to clearly read the image you have attached specifically the text written in the yellow box. Could you either enlarge the image or type out the pins and voltages in your reply? Thanks. Another question I have is do I need to have the controller unit plugged in when I am performing these tests. Since I suspect that the controller unit was damaged due to the issue I am observing I think for safety reasons I would like to take it off. Will that effect my measurements? (I suspect it wont.) As far is monitoring the voltage drop during ignition cycle. I only have a hand held multimeter. Will that sufficiently show me the voltage drop or should I dig up a scope to look at the AC drops? One other piece of information. Yesterday after the clock display went out my wife tried to turn it back on via the method I've described in my previous post. After re-instating the display error F11 appeared on the display and the buttons were unresponsive. Can you tell me what is F11 indicative off? thanks. I plan to measure the voltages on the PS board later today.

Llya: The F11 implies a shorted key pad. You do not need a scope to measure voltage drop. I added another image and I hope you make it out. Pin 1 to Pin 2 should measure 7.3-9.5VDC Pin 1 to Pin 3 should measure 14-20 VDC Pin 1 to Pin 5 should measure around 1.5 VDC The pins should be marked on the connector.

Hi Joey, I had some time to look at the stove below are my findings: Power Supply Measurements: Pin 1 to 2 -- 9.8V Pin 1 to 3 -- 19.49V Pin 1 to 5 -- 0V ( I assume this means PS board is bad?) Note: When turning on the front burners into constant ignition mode there was no change to the DC voltages. Another Observation: My AC line input measured at P1 Connector was 120V During ignition the voltage varied. It mostly hovered around 120V but I saw brief spikes to as high as 180 and 160 Volts. My hand held meter isn't so great so I can't be sure as to what exactly is going on a couple of times I thought I saw the meter go out of range (I was on 200V range.) I am not sure what this means. Is this king of fluctuation expected when ignition is firing? Can I disconnect the ignition circuit so that I do not damage another control unit? Thanks for your advice. -ilya

llya: Based on your reply, it sounds like a faulty power power supply board or the electronic oven control/clock assembly. It will do no harm to disconnect the surface ignition circuit.

Hi Joey, I am going to go ahead and order a new power supply board.
Is it consistent that a faulty power supply board would cause the controller board to die?
And does it make sense that the AC voltage fluctuates due to the same fault?
I just want to cover all the bases, its been a bit rough without the oven :).

llya; A faulty power supply can cause the oven control to shut off/go dead. If replacing the power supply board does not resolve the issue, the oven control will need to be replaced providing there are no loose wire connections between the power supply board and the oven control board/clock assembly. Be sure to disconnect the power cord from the range before servicing.

A:

Hi Joey ,
I recieved the new power board. One thing to note that neither the new nor the old unit showed any voltage between pins 0 and 5.
I went ahead and hooked up the new power unit and new control unit anyway. When all hooked up I did measure ~2Volts on pin 5. At this point the stove control was restored. I played with the oven ignition and that worked fine.
I then put the stove into the iginition cycle again turnint one of the top burners and leaving the ignition clicking. After about 5 seconds of clicking my control unit shut off again. I shut off the stove and uplugged it at this point. Then I reconnected everything back and got "LINE ERROR" message from my control unit.
At this point I feel like the symptom of ignition cannot be ignored anymore. Its obvious that neither the controller nor the power unit are responsible for the issue since I just replaced both of them and still the issue exists. The fact that the issue always shows up during ignition is not an accident since I was able to predict the potential for malfunction in that operating mode.
Do you have any suggestions for further trouble shooting?
How do I disconnect the top burner ignition?
What does Line ERR mean? thanks for your help.

A:

llya: Line ERR means an error in the voltage supply. I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range based on symptom and details. I can't see the surface ignition system being faulty and causing the symtom if there is nothing wrong with the incoming voltage supply.

Q:

oven on door lock 79079423601 Kenmore Elite Gas range

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Kenmore washer.

From the information you have provided above, I have located some information to help get the oven in operating status. From the owner’s manual it seems to be in a lock mode not allowing anything to function. So, to disable the lock feature on your model

1.    Press and hold the STOP/CLEAR button for 3 seconds. A beep should sound. LOC will clear. The DOOR LOCKED will continue to flash until the door has completely unlocked.

2.    For future reference and to look over yourself click here for manual.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business, have a great day.
