Q:

My kenmore gas range does not work properly? 79078872405

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I am sorry to hear that the bake feature in the oven isn't working, I know how frustrating that is.

The most common reason why the bake would not work would be if the ignitor doesn't work or isn't glowing hot enough to have the safety valve release the gas. Have you noticed if it's glowing when you turn on the bake option?

If you have a multimeter, you can run an ohms check on the ignitor to see if it's good. The ohms for an oven ignitor should be between 50-150 ohms. Second, you take run a volts check on the connector and verify it's receiving 120 volts. Just make sure that when you check the volts, you have the oven turned ON to get a correct reading.

If the ignitor checks out, I suspect you have an issue with the valve or a loose or bad connection within the cirucuit.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

If by chance we determine the ignitor needs replacement, I have included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the PartsDirect page to view and purchase the part.
