You could have a bad igniter on that bake burner that is causing this problem. See if the oven will heat properly in the broil mode. If it does, check to see if the bake igniter is glowing when the oven is set in the bake mode (you may need to let the oven cavity cool before lifting out the bottom panel to access that bake igniter). The theory of operation for the ignition system in this range is shown in the image below. Here is a link for a video that further explains that ignition process: Gas Ignition Operation . If that igniter is glowing but the burner will not ignite or stay lit, then replacing that glow bar igniter (part 316489400) will probably fix this problem. You can order that igniter from this page: Igniter for Kenmore Range Model 790.78862803 . Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing and replacing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why is one of the burners not working on my Kenmore stove?

A:

This is a problem with the surface switch or direct spark module. If the left front burner switch that is not working does not create a spark on any of the other burners when turned on I suspect the burner switch is bad. If the left front burner switch causes a spark at all of the other burners except that burner then I suspect the direct spark module. In order to confirm this, voltage test will need to be performed.
