Q:

oven temperature change 79078779400 Kenmore Gas range

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

It could be the control panel, the oven element, or the temp sensor. I would change out the temp sensor and the oven element first. If those don’t fix the issue then changing out the control board should do it.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

There is not a reset procedure. Based on your symptom it sounds like the electronic oven control does not see the door shut. If the door is not shutting fully, the door switch will not make and complete the signal to the control; it will not lock and start a clean cycle if the door switch is not pushed in all the way.

Try pushing inwards at the top of the door and keep slight pressure on it while programming and starting a clean cycle.

If the door is not shutting properly, it will likely need to have the door hinges replaced.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Those links for previous answers indicate that your problem may be caused by a failed door lock mechanism. A problem with the oven light switch or the wiring could also cause this problem in your situation. Check to see if that door switch is operating properly to turn the oven light on and off.

If that oven light switch is operating properly, then you may be able to resolve this problem by pressing in on the oven door to make sure that the oven door light switch plunger is fully depressed. The door lock hook may then begin to move and fully lock the oven door. You may then be able to unlock the door by pressing in on it while pressing and holding the Stop/Clear button to disable the control lock function. If the oven door lock mechanism is stuck or won't operate properly, then you will probably need to replace that component. A bad clock control board in the console of your range or a wiring connection problem could also cause this failure. You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Range 790.78779400 Parts . Unplug the range before accessing and replacing internal components. Here is a brief repair video that shows how to replace the oven door lock assembly: Oven Door Lock Motor Assembly Replacement .

If you need more help resolving this failure, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
