Q:

Oven bottom burner not working 79078773402 Kenmore Gas range

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your oven and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 79078773402. From what you are describing it seems like the bake igniter is not working properly, It should be glowing red/orange before the bake burner is lite. I recommend having someone test it or visually check to see if it is glowing at all when you are trying to get the oven lite. '

Yes it glows when it's turned on. When I tap on the safety valve it lights. Could It be that the igniter isn't hot enough? Or is the valve bad? I'm just trying to figure out what I need to buy without spendy house calls.

Thank you for the additional information Randall, I would have to say that if the igniter is working, the valve for the bake burner is possibly sticking. It seems like the valve is not letting the gases out. You are also able to switch the igniters around and see if that helps any. If you have further questions please let me know. There could several reasons why the door lock motor will not quit running. The lock motor assembly (key#89) could have a failed switch, there could be a loose wire connection at the latch switch or at the oven control board or it could possibly have a faulty oven control board. The lock motor assembly (key#89) is located behind the rear panel. NOTE: Disconnect the range from the power supply before removing the rear panel and checking the door lock switches. If there are not any loose wires on the door lock switches then I recommend calling a service technician to test the door lock switches and the door lock circuit. If the door lock switches are faulty the door lock assembly will have to be replaced. If the door lock switches are okay and the circuit is okay the oven control will likely need to be replaced.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
