Question and Answers

Q:

Gas Range Controller beeping constantly with surface burners on code F10. 790.78739400

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your range displays an error code.

I have found that the F10 means runaway temperature
. (F10 only) Check RTD Sensor Probe & replace if necessary. If oven is overheating, disconnect

power. If oven continues to overheat when the power is reapplied, replace EOC. Severe overheating
may require the entire oven to be replaced should damage be extensive.

The code 30 means oven probe connection. (F30 or F31) Check resistance at room temperature & compare to RTD Sensor resistance chart.
If resistance does not match the RTD chart replace RTD Sensor Probe. Check Sensor wiring
harness between EOC & Sensor Probe connector.

RTD SCALE
Temperature (°F)  Resistance (ohms)
32 ± 1.9                    1000 ± 4.0
75 ± 2.5                    1091 ± 5.3
250 ± 4.4                  1453 ± 8.9
350 ± 5.4                  1654 ± 10.8
450 ± 6.9                  1852 ± 13.5
550 ± 8.2                  2047 ± 15.8
650 ± 9.6                  2237 ± 18.5
900 ± 13.6                2697 ± 24.4

If you do not see the latch hook for that door lock sticking out and preventing the door from closing, then I do not recommend that you replace that component. The control will normally display an error code if that latch is extended when the oven door is open.

It is likely that you have bad door hinges as described in that link for a previous answer that Joseph P. posted in the above response. If that lock latch is not sticking out and preventing the door from closing, I recommend that you use kit 5304445976 to replace the hinges and receivers in that range. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. That kit has both hinges and the other parts that you should need to fix this problem. I provided a copy of the basic repair procedure in the image below. NOTE: That oven door is heavy. Two people may be needed to lift that component off of the range.

These tips may help you fix this failure. If you need more help, reply with additional details.
