Question and Answers

Q:

Can I use temp probe 316490000 for kenmore oven model 790.78572406. I looks exactly like the one I have. Probe 316490001 would require splicing. 790.78572406

A:

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com, and for being a valued member.
Sears does not recommend using parts outside of what the manufacturer recommends. The OEM parts or substituted parts have been factory tested and verified for usability within the range. The difference between the two probes is that 316490000 are for electric range models, whereas the substituted probe 316490001 is for gas ranges. The temperature range between the two probes will be different and more than likely will not be compatible.
I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

If I can get the original probe 316217001 would that be ok because I don.t feel comfortable splicing. I also read that you need special wire nuts if you splice.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The range was manufactured in the 41st week of 2006. It sold for about $600.00 and is worth about $300.00 depending on the condition and if every thing works.
