Q:

F23 Error Code after replacement of the control panel circuit board 79077553800 Kenmore Elite Range

A:

Hello, glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. We, at Sears, value your business.

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is the F23 error code on the range.

Glad to help out.  I’m looking at your Kenmore Range model number 79077553800.

F23 is a communication failure between VSC board and Electronic oven control.

Note:  f23 is for upper or main oven.

1.  Check harness connections between VSC board and Electronic Oven Control board.
2.  Test for approximately 5 volts DC to VSC board at p6 connector pins 1 & 6.
If voltage is correct replace VSC board.  If voltage is incorrect replace Electronic Oven Control board.

Electronic Oven Control Board #316577072

VSC board # 316448903

Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

The best way to gain access to the control is the unplug the electricity and the gas if used must also be disconnected and the range moved out so the rear panel of the console is accessible.  There should be 8 screws holding the rear panel on and the control will then be visible and the connectors and the mounting should be visible to you.  I would recommend you either use you cell to take a picture or draw a picture of where the connectors go. Then pull the one out and replace with the new one.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

OK, so installing the controller is a real pain.. Had to remove the cooktop by disconnecting all the gas burners from it, then lifting it to pop it from the two front spring-clips(about 2.5" in from each side), then lift and remove it to expose two screws(one on each side) that hold the plastic shroud. With the shroud removed you gain access to the controller. MY QUESTION NOW IS - there's a basic design problem here,, the oven vents(heat) directly up towards the controller - I doubt the controller electronics are designed to survive very long when exposed to the oven temperatures - especially when self-cleaning. IS THERE A HEAT DEFLECTOR AVAILABLE TO HELP PROTECT THE CONTROLLER FROM ALL THAT HEAT ? IF NOT, THEN THE UNIT(AND THIS IS THE 3RD CONTROLLER IN m not a Dummy. Poor engineering with this unit.
