Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The "F1" fault code implies a possible Oven Control Failure, shorted keypad, or bad oven temperature sensor probe.

Check the oven temperature sensor probe and probe wiring and replace if bad. The oven sensor can be found protruding into the oven cavity in the upper left or upper right hand rear corner. It can be removed and disconnected and test for resistance with an ohm meter. If the oven sensor measures approximately 1100 ohms at room temperature then the failure causing the "F1" fault code is a faulty Electronic Oven Control.

You can also power the range off for 30 seconds by disconnecting the power supply and if error code returns, replace Electronic Oven Control. (EOC)

I added a YouTube video showing how to test the oven sensor. If you find a faulty sensor, the part number is 316134900.

If the sensor is Okay, the (EOC) is part 316080102R and the approximate cost is $135.99.

You can order and look up parts at Sears PartsDirect

It appears the EOC can be removed and replaced from the rear of the range by disconnecting the power cord and then by removing the panel from behind the console.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Sometimes getting access to the parts to make repairs on an appliance is half the job. While you wait for the expert, I did locate some instructions from a previous expert post for a model that looks close to yours. I also attached the schematics for your model from Sears Parts Direct. Hope these help with the repair project.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know how to get the top up so you can repair your range.

Because this is a gas range there are inherent dangers with working with gas fittings. I would recommend that you have a qualified gas technician do this repair.

  • You will need to remove all the screws that secure the burner heads to the top before you open the oven door to remove the screws that hold the top to the range frame. Sometimes the screws that go into the burner heads will have to be replaced. Here is the part number if you need to do that.316069301 and they come as a 10 pack.

Be careful not to bend any of the aluminum gas lines and after you are done installing the igniter on the burner that you do a leak check on the connections under the top.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

How do I change the oven control on my Kenmore range model 79077478790?

A:

Unplug the range before beginning this process. The parts breakdown of the console for your range is shown in the image below. I am not sure how you will need to access the control. It is likely that you will need to remove knobs and screws in the front panel and access it through the front of the panel. Without being there to physically examine the range, it is hard to tell. If you are not able to determine how to access the control from the image below, I recommend calling a service technician to install the oven control.
