Thank you for the question about your Kenmore oven not coming on. I know this is frustrating. I will be glad to help with this issue.
Your oven does not have a pilot lite, but instead is equipped with an ignition system that consists of several components. When you select bake, the ignitor comes on and you will see a glow inside the oven then within a few seconds hear the burner come on and heating has begun. If you are not seeing the glow then the most likely component is the ignitor. If you are seeing the glow but get no heat then the gas valve is not opening and the problem could be the ignitor and or the gas valve. And there could be other contributing factors like the control and wiring. My suggestion would be check that the control has not been inadvertently set to delay bake or broil. Also try unplugging range for one minute to reset control.
Servicing this appliance is very complicated and components need to be check with precise equipment and tools. I will attach a link to our service department for your convenience. Should you feel confident to do testing yourself please reply with details.

Thanks Ron H.

Q:

Why are one of the burners not shutting off on my Kenmore range?

A:

The surface burner not shutting off has nothing to do with the oven self cleaning cycle. It sounds like the contacts inside the surface unit switch have welded together. I recommend replacing the surface unit switch.
