I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your range. The F3 error code indicates that the electronic oven control board in the range senses an over-temperature condition in the oven. A failed temperature sensor probe, a wiring problem between the sensor and the control board, or a failed electronic oven control board, can cause this. If the oven is apparently not overheating when this error code appears, then your likely failure is the temperature sensor probe. If the oven is overheating, then you likely have a failed electronic oven control board due to a stuck relay not cycling the oven heating element off properly.

To make the need checks turn the power off to the range. You will need to remove the back of the range and locate the temperature probe (usually in the upper right hand corner. Ohm the probe, it should ohm approximately 1080 ohms at room temperature. If not, the probe is bad. If the probe ohms near 1080, you will then need to make the same measurement at the EOC (Electronic Oven Control) with the probe connected to these wires. If you get 1080 (approximately) the control is bad. If the probe ohms correctly and you have a different reading down the wires from the control the wires are bad.

How can I turn off the clean oven lock, on an old Kenmore gas range?

Issue: How can I turn off the clean oven lock, on an old Kenmore gas range?

Solution: This can sometimes happen if the customer mistakenly chose self clean then tried opening the door when the door latch was moving into the LOCK position.

  • The latch has started to lock and the latch hook continues to slide not allowing the door to close.
The customer needs to move the door latch back into the UNLOCk position.

  1. Open the door and find the door switch. The door switch is found on either the upper right or upper left corner of the oven edge.
  2. Push and hold in the light switch button.
  3. Press the Stop / Cancel button to cancel any existing cycle the range might be in.
  4. Still holding in the light switch, turn the self-clean cycle on as if you were going to run the self clean cycle (depending on model, press the Start button).
  5. Continue to hold the light switch and then press the Stop / Cancel button to turn off the self clean cycle.
  6. Keep holding light switch until latch hook reverses back into opening or the UNLOCk position.

To set the controls for a Self-Clean Cycle:

  1. Push clean button, "_____" will appear.
  2. Push the up or down arrow to set for the amount of hours it will run for.
  3. "CLN" will appear.
Note: General resolution for problem is based on information submitted with question. If problem persist, contact a service technician to Sears Repair Department 1-800-469-4663.
