Question and Answers

Q:

How old is this stove? We don't think the oven is heating properly. Curious if repair cost is worth it 79072852300 Kenmore Gas range

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the heating issue you're having with the gas range. I know how concerning that is to have happen.

This range was manufactured in 2003, so it would be about 11 years. I would recommend checking to see if the igniter is glowing. An igniter failure is the most common reason why there would be a heating issue. However, if both bake and broil are not working, it could be an electronic control board issue, as it would be very unlikely both igniters would go out at the same time. You didn't provide enough detail to know for sure.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

What caused the electronic oven control on Kenmore 790.72852300 blank?

A:

I understand how the error would be very inconvenient for you. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I have found a link that will proivde some information on the issues. It does include some troubleshooting tips as well. I would suggest that you try a manual reset on the range. You will need to disconnect the power, and leave it off for ten minutes, then reconnect the power and try the oven. If the error comes back, then you panel will need to be replaced. I hope this will help you.

From the description you give I suspect the problem is the main control.

One thing to try first is to unplug the unit for a few minutes then plug it back in. The control should reset and work okay after the clock is set.

If the problem repeats then you will need to replace the control. I can help you do-it-yourself if you're interested.

Try the reset first and let me know how it goes.

Hi Fred, I had tried resetting the stove by unplugging the unit and plugging it back in and still got a blank display. The annoying beeping noise had stopped. Everything else works fine (oven's light, warmer, and stoves). I'm interested in getting the info on DIY to replace the control. Thanks.

Henry: Fred is not here today so I'll be assisting you. The electronic control is part # 316207520 and you will also need to replace the overlay too. The overlay sticks on the face of the control and you will not likely get it off without damaging it. The overlay is part #316220839. It's a fairly easy procedure to remove and replace the oven control. Disconnect the power cord and then remove the cover behind the console assembly to access the control board. There will be 2 or4 screws located near the corners of the control to remove and the control should come out. Install the new overlay over the face making sure to align so it matches the buttons and then remove one wire at time from the old and transfer to the matching terminal on the new.
