Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore 790.71421404 gas oven & broiler heat up?

A:

Having a non working oven can be stress inducing at this time of year with so much baking and special dinners being planned. Take out is not an option. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can take a look at a similar question from a previous expert post. I attached the link below. If you feel you would prefer to have an expert technician diagnose and make the repairs, an option is to visit Sears home Services and use the scheduler. Hope your oven is working soon.

I assume that the cook top burners are working. Check to see if the igniters are glowing when the bake and broil modes are set. You will need to remove the bottom panel in the oven cavity to check the bake burner igniter. If the igniters are glowing, I recommend that you check the service gas shut-off valve on the gas regulator as shown in the image below. If this valve is in the "off" position, the cook top burners will work but the bake and broil burner will not get any gas.

Based on your symptoms, this is the likely cause of your failure.

If the bake and broil igniters are not working, you could have a wiring failure, a failed control board or a number of other problems preventing the oven from heating.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
