Q:

Small round disk in upper oven 79048183000 Kenmore Elite Walloven

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Kenmore Elite Walloven model 79048183000. I am so sorry the center part of the adapter assembly fell out. I will be happy to help you with this.

The adapter assembly includes the vent tube and catalyst. This assembly removes the smoke from the oven. You will need to replace the adapter assembly to replace the disk that fell out. The disk is not sold separately. I have included the link below for you to order the part.

SAFETY WARNING: Be sure to disconnect the power supply to the oven before you begin your repair. Keep in mind that parts may have sharp edges that can cause serious cuts. Please use caution and wear protective gloves when possible.

To remove the old assembly you will need to access it from inside the oven. Simply turn the assembly to line up the tab with the slot and the assembly should pull or drop right out. I recommend you remove any ash that may be built up in the opening before installing the new adapter assembly. You can use a vacuum cleaner to do this.

I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

I have received the part and there seems to be a couple of problems...first there are no instructions on how to take out the old one and replace it...I can turn it but it will not come out. Also, the part that I received seems to be longer than the one in the oven. I can stick my finger in the one in the oven and feel the top of the piece but the one I got from sear direct seems to have an extension tube on it and it is longer...am not able to get the extension tube off the new part...do not want to take out the old one until I am sure the new on will fit.

Your are correct, the round ceramic disc with holes fits up inside the oven vent (key #127). The ceramic piece is called a catalyst which assit in removing smoke that vents through the oven vent. If your not able to re-insert the ceraimic cayalyst into the bottom of the oven vent tube, you will need to remove the vent tube from inside the oven cavity and insert the catylist from the top of the vent tube. The vent tube usually can be taken off by rotating it 1/4 of a turn to dis-engage the slots and then pull it down and and out. Once you have the oven vent tube removed, drop the ceramic catalyst down the top and it should stay in near the bottom of the vent tube. Sometimes you may have to squeaze the bottom of the vent tube inwards just a little before dropping it down so the catalyst will not fall through. Re-insert the oven vent and rotate it 1/4 turn to lock it back in position.

In my lower oven this adapter has dropped out completely. Will I need to replace it or can this be reinserted. If so, can it be done without taking the unit out of the wall

Q:

Replace oven liner in lower oven of Kenmore Elite Double Oven

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your oven liner is damaged by tinfoil.

There is not a written procedure or service manual that I can provide you with that will show you how to replace that oven liner. I recommend that you have a service technician replace that part. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

I do not recommend that you attempt that repair yourself. The entire oven would need to be pulled out (with the electrical power disconnected). All of the components in that upper oven would need to be removed. The only guide for that process is the exploded parts diagram that you were provided. The technician will rely on that diagram along with their experience and training to disassemble the oven and replace that liner. If you are certain that you can safely replace that liner using that information and your personal observation of the oven, then you can attempt this repair even though I do not recommend it. The oven will need to be properly reassembled to safely operate it.

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.
