Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore microwave model 790-47859400 that just stopped working. The light still comes on and for a short period it would start and heat but just stop.

A:

I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service.

Thank you for contacting ManageMyLife.com regarding your Kenmore microwave that stopped working. I see Alina provided you with some excellent safety information. I'm happy to help you today.

You can try resetting the unit by disconnecting it from the outlet or by switching off the designated circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes, then restore the power. If the reset doesn't work, there is an internal issue that will require service. I apologize, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

It is for these safety reasons, that I strongly recommend you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

A:

The number that you provided appears to be a part number for a microwave. I am not able to cross reference the part number to Kenmore wall ovens that use that part. You may have a wall oven/microwave combo that you are trying to install. I recommend that you examine the oven for a Kenmore model number in a format such as 911.47813201 or 790.47859400.

Reply with an updated model number and we try to assist you further. Once we receive a valid model number for the Kenmore wall oven, we will try to find installation cut-out dimensions.
