Q:

F4 error for a Kenmore 790.47843406

A:

Error codes can be confusing. A good starting point for understanding the codes is the owner's manual. I attached the link to your stove's manual below. I also added a link to an appliance web site that may help while you wait for the expert answer. Hope this helps!

The F4 error code is not listed on the technical data sheet for this exact model of oven. On the similar oven models, it indicates a problem with the oven temperature sensor probe. You can shut off the breaker for the oven and check this component for resistance. The image below shows how to access the temperature sensor probe. If you can unplug the probe and measure the resistance through this component using a volt/ohm meter, you can determine whether it is causing your F4 code. It should measure near 1100 ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is more than 500 ohms off, I recommend that you replace the probe. If the resistance is okay then you will likely need to replace the electronic control board in the oven. I recommend that you have a service technician repair the oven if the temperature sensor probe is okay. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you need more help, submit additional details and we will try to assist you further.

Q:

microwave wont start

A:

Good morning... I can fully understand your concern regarding this issue but I would offer caution if you're thinking of attempting repairs yourself. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. I will forward your question to an expert who will investigate the matter further and get back to you.You will hear from them within two business days if not sooner. Until you hear from us, have a nice day.

I understand wanting to diagnose and repair the microwave yourself. Unfortunately, we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

It is for these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.

We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Thank you for your question on the wall oven/microwave.

Does the microwave work?

Does the display light up on the control and does the oven light come on when you open the door?

If the display on the oven control will light up and you can input the time of day on the clock then the control relay for the oven is not working.

Let me know the answers to my questions about the control and we can continue to troubleshoot your oven.

Sam A.
