Q:

How can I correct the temperature of my oven?

A:

Not all of the oven temperature testers are very accurate. Before attempting to calibrate the oven temperature using a store bought thermometer I would recommend having it tested with a temp meter.

Adjusting oven temp;

  • Press & hold the BAKE pad for 5 seconds.

  • The display will read the difference in degrees between the original factory temp setting & the current temp setting. If the oven control has the original factory calibration, the display will read “00”.

  • The temperature can now be adjusted up or down 35 F. degrees in 1 degree increments by pressing the up or down arrow pads. Adjust the up/down arrow pads until the desired amount of offset appears in the display. For models with numeric pads, enter the adjustment desired with the number pad; for a negative value press CLEAN pad. A minus sign will appear before the number.

  • When you have made the desired adjustment, push the CANCEL pad to go back to the time display.

Q:

Kenmore oven model 790.47179400 displaying F 10. It is not working right after reseting. What does F10 mean?

A:

The F10 code indicates the electronic oven control (EOC) has detected an over temp condition in the oven. This can be caused by an oven temperature sensor or the EOC.

We can't test the EOC but we can test the oven sensor. To do this turn the power to the oven off and release the clips that hold the oven in place. You should have 2 special keys for releasing the clips. There are 2 extra keys taped inside the bottom trim of the oven. Slide the oven forward 10-12 inches and remove the top cover over the controls and remove it. I am sending you some images of how to release the clips if you haven't been shown how.

Disconnect the plug on the EOC that has 2 violet wires in it and read the resistance between the violet wires. It should read between 1000-1200 ohms at room temperature. If the oven sensor checks within this range the EOC is bad.

If the resistance is out of range take the lower panel off the rear of the oven and disconnect the violet wires from the plug that goes to the oven sensor. Read the resistance of the sensor. If it is still not within the range the sensor is bad. If it measures within the range the problem is in the wiring from the EOC to the sensor.
