Question and Answers

Q:

How do you replace an electronic ignitoron a sears dual fuel range?

A:

First disconnect power to the range. Remove the burner knobs and lift the top panel to access the valves. The igniters will mount on the top of the valves. Remove the original igniter and install the new one. The wires should also connect the same way. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Q:

Why won't one of my surface burners spark to ignite the surface burner?

A:

Just to let you know, all 4 burner electrodes should spark no matter which burner knob is set to "LITE". If three of the four electrodes spark, the failure could be a simple loose wire connection at the electrode or a broken electrode. If the electrode sparks when ever one of the other 3 burner knobs is set to "Lite", the failure is likely the burner switch.

I added information and instructions in the images below.

I recommend highly calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range. NOTE: If plan to repair it yourself, Disconnect the power cord and shut the gas off to the range before servicing.

Q:

What is causing my range to display "F1" fault code?

A:

Generally speaking "F1" implies a control board failure.

"F1" could also indicate:

  • Shorted keypad (control board)
  • The control board may have become corrupted. (Replace control board)
  • The control board could have a shorted relay. (Replace control board)
  • The oven temperature sensor probe may have gone bad. (Replace oven sensor probe)

I recommend removing the oven sensor probe (key#37) from inside the oven as shown in the image I added. NOTE: Remove or disconnect power to the range before removing the oven sensor probe. Once you have disconnected and removed the oven sensor probe you will need an Ohm meter to check the resistance across the two (2) wire leads of the sensor. The resistance of the oven sensor should measure 1091 ohms plus or minus 5.3 ohms at room temperature of 75 degrees plus or minus 2.5 degrees.

If the oven temperature sensor measures around the 1091 ohms, replace the oven control board. If the oven temperature sensor measures above or below the 1091 ohms plus or minus 5.3 ohms, replace the oven temperature sensor probe.
