Question and Answers

Q:

oven racks not fitting properly 79046783900 Kenmore Electric range

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your range. Upon researching model 79046783900:  If you leave the racks in during the self clean cycle, the racks can become smaller. If you have replaced the racks and they still will not fit, the oven has most likely become too wide for the oven racks, it is usually because the oven liner has gotten wider. To correct this problem, the oven liner might need to be replaced.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

Kenmore eletric one of burners does not work and Hot Surface light stays on 79046783900

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Kenmore Range, Model: 790.46783900. From reviewing the details on your model, each element has a limit switch that will complete the voltage path to that hot surface light. If the sensor on a single element is tripped (or stuck) then that light will be on. That circuit to the hot surface light is traced in gray on the wiring diagram in the image below. You indicated that the light finally turned off when you lifted that top. If the light stays on again in the future, then you apparently have a bad element. You may be able to determine which element is at fault by unplugging the range and removing that gray wire off of the 2B terminal of the each element (one at a time). Tape the end of that wire to prevent it from shorting out against the metal inside the range. Briefly plug the range in and see if the light turns on. Use a process of elimination to determine which element is causing your problem. as far as the burner not working it could be a direct result of the switch not turning off. The switch could be interfering with the burner wiring and not allowing it to open for heat.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the range to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in this repair, then you can have it repaired at home by a sears technician. I have the included a link to the website: Sears Home Services or call 1-800-469-4663.

I hope this answered your question. Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com, and have yourself a wonderful day.
