Q:

How to replace glass top on Kenmore Elite range?

A:

Electrical wiring is something most of us let the professionals do. I see you have done some preliminary research and are looking for clarification from the expert. I would suggest not disconnecting wires until the expert responds or the wires are marked in some way. If you do decide you would prefer to have a technician help, the Sears Home Services scheduler below can help.

Thanks Barbara, I agree, I asked for a technician to come and replace it when I placed the order for the new glass top. I was told I could do it myself, instructions are online, it's easy. I said I didn't want to do it myself, couldn't they send someone to do it. Again I was told to use the www.managemylife.com web site, click "Answers" and ask a question on how to replace the glass top on my Kenmore Elite range. So, when the new glass top arrived, that's what I did. I managed to get through it, but it's not easy at all. There are plenty sharp metal edges to cut yourself on, the screws are not easily removed or replaced, the wiring is extensive, and the burners and indicator lights are not easily removed/replaced. Sears is crazy if they think this is easy, and even more foolish recommending it as a simple do-it-yourself repair. Why not provide repair service when repeatedly requested for starters? I may have replaced the top, but now my burners don't work, so now I've had to schedule a repair and can't use my stove until they fix it. Ridiculous. Thanks for nothing Sears. Now you'll probably tell me I need to buy a new range. It's this kind of misguided service philosophy that will eventually drive Sears out of business.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with your range. If the burner that works is the warmer, this would indicate the L2 line voltage has been lost to the range. The warmer burner only operates on 120 volts. Check for a tripped breaker. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

how do I replace the light p/n 381044827 for model 79046604502

A:

Having to replace light on your appliance can be quite tricky especially without your owner's manual. A suggestion I have is to resubmit your question with more specific detailed of what your appliance is. While you are waiting on a response from a expert, I searched your model number and found this great link in Sears Parts Direct website on different manual's on the model number you provided. I attached the link below feel free to open it up and search for your appliance. Hope this helps!

I am assuming you mean part number 318044827 hot surface indicator light.

I am sending some images showing removal of the control panel in order to remove the glass cooktop and removing the cooktop.

Be sure to disconnect the power to the range before removing any panels.

If you are not comfortable doing this job, go to http://services.sears.com/shs/category/repair?sid=MMLxexpertxmerch and get a Sears technician to repair the range.
