Question and Answers

Q:

Why does one of the top elements on my Kenmore range model 790.46582502 only work on high and cannot be controlled?

A:

Lack of temperature control on a cook top element is normally caused by a failed burner infinite switch. I recommend replacing the burner switch for the element that is not working properly. This will likely fix your problem.

You can order the burner switch (Key 54 in the parts image below) for the affected burner from the Sears PartsDirect website. Key your model number into the search field and you can access a parts diagram like the one shown in the image below. You may also be able to order (or buy) the switch at your local Sears store if it has a Repair Center attached to it.

Shut off the breaker to the range and follow the steps shown in the second image below to replace the infinite switch.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why is my Kenmore range not working correctly?

A:

What you are describing can only be repaired by replacing the electronic control. The control is not field serviceable. I would recommend replacing the electronic control assembly.
