What causes a radiant element on a Kenmore range to be much hotter than the dial setting?

A:

If your radiant element is cycling on & off then the temperature control switch is working. The most important advice to remember is that the size of the pan makes a big difference in the output of the radiant element. If you can see the red glow of the element beyond the diameter of the pan, then the pan is too small. This causes the element to react incorrectly for the heat output & throws off the selected temp range. If you have your owner’s manual this information starts on page 11.

How do I remove the ceramic top on a Kenmore range to replace an element?

A:

The procedure for removing the ceramic cook top for this type of range is provided in the images below. Your model of range may differ slightly from the one shown. The basic procedure will be the same. NOTE: Be sure to turn off the breaker to the range to completely disconnect electrical power before beginning this process.
