Question and Answers

Q:

Having trouble with my Kenmore gas stove. It will not maintain a steady temperature.

A:

I know how important it is for you to have all of your appliances working properly. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I was able to do some research. The oven is not a completely closed space. There has to be a vent to allow steam to escape. The oven would overheat if there wasn't one. As for the theromstat, the best way to find which one is bad it to test them. You will need a volt meter for this, and you will be looking for the one that is not giving a reading of 120 volts. I hope this will help you.

Thank you for your questions.

I can understand thinking that the oven should be a sealed cavity.

Considering your question about why the oven is not holding temperature could be related to the oven burner igniter for the oven. If it is delaying in turning the burner back on it may be the problem. This is a common issue on gas ranges with some years of use.

If the oven is not at the correct temperature, then perhaps the oven control needs to be re-calibrated. If you think it needs recalibration I have given you the instructions from your owner's manual below in the image. .

Question 1. In order to have good baking results the oven has to breathe a certain amount.

If you will notice that at the bottom of the oven door gasket there is a location with no seal and that is the cool air intake and then the air exhausts out the vent that you found. They call this the chimney effect, and it helps the oven reduce hot and cold spots by moving the air around in the cavity.

Question 2. I only see one control for the oven.

The part number is: 318296807 for the control.

If none of these suggestions seem to be the problem then please reply and I will be glad to help you further.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
